The first property admittance in Birmingham was developed on January 28, 1819, by Colonel Benjamin K. Pierce, brother of future U.S. President Franklin Pierce with the north west 1/4 of area 36. Colonel Pierce frequented his property many times, but in no way settled on it. In March 1818, John W. Hunter and his sibling Daniel left Auburn, NY, by sleigh and journeyed to The state of Michigan by means of Upper Canada.
