Store bought vs. homemade guacamole

Posted by Dorothy,

Ummm… is there actually a question here? Since guacamole is so easy to make and has so few ingredients I don’t even see why somebody would ever buy those packages in the produce section. Or why they would buy the dip in the cooler, ready made.

Well, I suppose if you had no time whatsoever or no confidence at all. Or maybe if you knew absolutely nothing about guacamole dip and had to start somewhere. In fact, I recall a time when I considered buying one of those packages where you just add avocado and presto! You have your dip.

Laird’s Breakfast

Posted by Ludie,

In the Scottish highlands oatmeal has been a staple breakfast food for generations.  ”Laird” is the Scottish word for “Lord.”  A Laird is a member of the gentry and is a landowner.  Lairds usually are owners of one or more farms.  The Laird’s Breakfast  started with Charles McGlagin of the McGlagin people and is made as follows:  Prepare your oatmeal as usual like in your Revere Pots and Pans.  Quick cooking oatmeal is fine.  Cover the oatmeal generously with brown sugar.  Then pour on enough Scotch Whiskey to just cover over the top of the oatmeal.  This is a hearty breakfast that will not only wake you up but make your roaring to go!

My Favorite Meat

Posted by Carmelina,

It’s currently around 11:20 PM, Friday night, November 5, 2010 which means that Thanksgiving is just under 3 weeks away. Even though for a lot of people the turkey only is associated with the Thanksgiving holiday, turkey is pretty much an all year thing with me. It’s by far my favorite meat. With it’s ground turkey or sliced turkey (aka turkey cutlets) or a whole turkey, I just can’t get enough of it. I usually will make some turkey burgers, make a turkey meatloaf or just roast a whole one on a Sunday afternoon. It’s now time to switch up my game a little bit and try and conjure up some Turkey Recipe Ideas so that I don’t tire of the same old thing.

Apple pie moonshine

Posted by Angelo,

I recently got to visit some cousins in Kentucky, who live up in the hills, and like the stereotype, enjoy a summer evening sitting on the step and the rocking chairs sipping on a little moonshine. They had one variety there that was particularly enjoyable and it really was very very simple to make. What was really remarkable was it tasted just like Apple pie and was aptly named Apple pie moonshine. They did give me the recipe and all the ingredients can be found at any local Piggly Wiggly so I am quite sure on my return home I will be purchasing the ingredients and making my own apple pie moonshine.
